Everything starts with a conversation!
Back in the mid-90’s, a dear friend introduced me to the Tammy Lynn Center. At the time, he was serving on the Board, and I was motivated by how passionate he was about the Center. His enthusiasm about the Tammy Lynn Center caused me to want to learn more and, as a small business owner, giving back to my community has always been important to me. My first visit to the Center was in late 1995, and I will never forget the sights and the sounds while witnessing individuals of all ages with special needs being cared for by patient staff of the Center. From those initial conversations, my heart and my mind were forever touched.
I was elected to the Board in 1996. I first attended the Center’s signature fundraising event, A Toast to the Triangle (www.atoasttothetriangle.org), in the Spring of 1997. This Toast was held at the North Raleigh Hilton. There were maybe 400 people there with 20 restaurants. Even then, I was impressed by the positive energy of the evening. In 2002 and 2003, I Co-chaired A Toast to the Triangle. By this time, this extraordinary event had grown to over 2000 people with 60 participating restaurants raising approximately $ 150,000.00. In 2005, I had the honor of serving as Chair of the Board for Tammy Lynn Center, Inc.
It is so easy to simply write a check to a charity and never give a second thought to the important work of that non-profit. My volunteer involvement with the Tammy Lynn Center has allowed me the opportunity to see and to learn the workings of a non-profit Board while allowing me the privilege to give-back to my community in time, talent, and resources. Although making financial contributions is so important, it’s more than writing a check. For me, the enrichment of life for children and adults with special needs has become a philanthropic focus, and the Tammy Lynn Center is where it all began.
For the Tammy Lynn Center, I am a financial supporter, community advocate, and dedicated Board member helping to raise money, to increase awareness, and to be a voice for people with disabilities within our community.
For the children and adults with developmental disabilities and their families, the depth of services offered by the Tammy Lynn Center is unlike any other non-profit in our State. These individuals and families depend on the programs of the Center, and now, more than ever, it’s important to get involved.
Your voice can make a difference too. The Tammy Lynn Center for Developmental Disabilities needs our Community’s support and involvement in order to continue to provide the level of services needed for this special segment of our population. Explore this Website and the Toast Website to get a sense of the great work that goes on at the Center. After that, consider making a financial gift of at least $ 50. If you’d like to discuss a financial pledge, a corporate gift, a matching gift, or planned giving, I personally invite you to schedule a tour of the Center. You will be able to see, first-hand, how your financial contribution will make a positive difference in the lives of the children and adults with special needs. Every dollar counts. Every voice matters!
Thank you for caring, and thank you for giving,
Dana
