My involvement with the Tammy Lynn Center started years ago when I was part of a group that chose the center over about 15 other non-profit organizations for a project – a project with the goal of providing value to the most deserving organization that was meeting community needs. During the evaluation to select our organization it became apparent very quickly that the Tammy Lynn Center was offering very unique, and very necessary, services that met very demanding needs of families with children with severe developmental disabilities.
It didn’t take long to see that to meet these needs it is necessary to provide a wide range of programs to meet many different needs, and also to have a wide range of skilled staff members – medical, educational and therapeutic, as well as administrative to meet the governmental requirements (no mean feat these days!). It became obvious that the Tammy Lynn Center was offering the most complete set of services and programs addressing very complex issues. Seeing the progress that could be accomplished under the most challenging of circumstances with children with severe developmental disabilities was most heartening. Seeing the value the center offers not only to the challenged individuals, but also to the families and supporters of these children, makes one interested in assisting the effort. I am convinced that the over 200 families that are served by the Tammy Lynn Center could not manage nearly as well as they do if they didn’t have the center there for them. This is why many board members donate their time to the center – assisting a very unique, and most necessary, organization offering value to families of our community that have very real, very challenging, circumstances to deal with.
